The Carver Apartment stands on a challenging site next to the 10 freeway at Hope and 17th street in Los Angeles. The building design boasts not only the good of green design but its good in social networking sustainability. This beautiful social housing complex harnesses good design to create a sheltering citadel that offers solace to its residents.
Michael Maltzan architects has designed this apartment building for the Skid Row Housing Trust, situated in a 97 unit 57,000 square feet building. The apartment is purposed to provide housing to formerly homeless elderly and disabled residents. The noisy highway is one problem to solve. So, the building was designed as partly through the complex’s iconic shape. The view of the urban structure can be enjoyed from the community room next to the freeway.
