This National Library building is not just a building since it becomes the mean for realizing of aspirations of Mexico’s government for an informed, literate, and productive citizenry. Take a site along the primary pedestrian circulation route to the train station, the design integrates 350,000 daily train riders in a new world of books and digital information. This library building provides the library, exhibits, performances, museum galleries, restaurants, children’s events, and the most diverse educational facilities for teaching, for learning, and for understanding and applying the new tools of information technology. The most attractive architectural elements of this building design are the natural lighting and water preservation. This public building will be a microcosm of the city and a symbol of the achievements of Mexico’s past, affirm the vast potential of its present, and most imaginatively, offer the tools to a most productive future to the people of Mexico. This public building was designed by Eric Owen Moss.
