This futuristic building will be located on the boundary between the city of Antwerp and its harbor. The design of the Port House has done by Zaha Hadid who defeated the other competitors in the invited competition, organized by the Flemish Government Architect. This new headquarters will accommodate 500 staff (currently working in separate buildings) in a single new building which is including a former fire station and the new extension. The design of this office building consists of two entities: the existing fire station and a new crystalline volume lifted above the retained building.
There is a central lobby which also functioned as an exhibition space. From here the users can go directly to the offices, meeting rooms, auditorium and panoramic restaurant in the new extension. The new Port House covered 12,800m2 (gross) area divided in the refurbished Fire Station 6,600m2 and 6,200m2 in the extension. The dimensions of the new building extension are 111m length, 24m width and 46m height (5 additional floors). The facade of the new headquarters building uses glass and aluminum panels which are reflecting the surroundings during the day and transforming into a radiating crystal at night.
